Fuji Robotics Videos

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Below is a series of short videos featuring Fuji palletizing robots.  As you’ll see, product is fed into the work cell via powered conveyor.  The robot picks the product and places it in a predetermined pattern on the pallet.  The robot then builds each subsequent layer of product until the pallet is full.  At this time, the full pallet is removed, either manually or automatically, and a new empty pallet is presented.  The cycle repeats.

Note that the actual picking of the product is achieved through a custom designed end-effecter, or “hand” of the robot.  The videos show various styles of end-effecters in use, ranging from clamp style for boxes to vacuum style for use placing boxes, slip sheets, and empty pallets.

PeakLogix Engineer in Japan with Fuji: Update #6

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Today was the last formal day of training with Fuji.  Having stayed on or ahead of schedule throughout, we were able to cover the final scheduled topics and then delve into some additional areas.

We first reviewed the process for transferring electronic files between the robot’s and our computers.  This consisted of how to create and/or load backup data files, update software versions, etc. - standard requirements for any computer operated equipment.  We just needed to cover the Fuji-specific process while ensuring our laptops were setup correctly to perform the function.

PeakLogix Engineer in Japan with Fuji: Update #5

Monday, March 9th, 2009

After an exciting weekend of soaking in the Japanese culture and road tripping to Hiroshima, it was back to training today.

The morning began discussing a topic easily overlooked in the big scheme of things – how do you physically install the robot?   The fact is that the robot can be cumbersome to maneuver, if not done properly.

PeakLogix Engineer in Japan with Fuji: Update #4

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Day 3’s training was structured very much like that of Day 2.  The morning consisted of instructor demonstrations with the afternoon dedicated to hands-on activity for the trainees.  The subject matter was programming the robot to utilize stacking patterns from a pre-established library of options.  Great stuff!  The benefit of this approach is ultimately realized over time as more product programs are added.

PeakLogix Engineer in Japan with Fuji: Update #3

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

As planned, today was dedicated to the manual programming of a robot.  In the morning hours, the Fuji instructor walked us step-by-step through the process.  In basic terms, this involves teaching the robot each position it needs to move through to pick up bags/boxes from an in-feed conveyor and load them onto a pallet in a predetermined pattern.  Sounds relatively simple at first, but it’s very much an exercise in precision, as four linear/rotational parameters need to be determined for each position.

The trainees were given their opportunity to get dirty during the afternoon.  Each of us was tasked with programming a robot to load a pallet in a sensible pattern.  The robot programming is done using a teaching pendant, aka a corded remote control.  So you can physically make the robot move in certain ways with button presses.
